The Dakota High Bridge is one of the longest and highest railroad bridges in North America.  Underneath is a peaceful town called Cheneau Valley.  The Mountain Daylight train carries passengers between Seattle and Chicago in style and comfort. 

A young man from Seattle finds his first job working the night shift on the Daylight while the small town of Cheneau Valley watches it children grow up in an atmosphere of love and caring.

These two worlds, which seem so independent, soon collide unexpectedly due to a tragic event that brings them together. 

Bridge Over the Valley is a classic American tale of heroism, tragedy, triumph and healing – a story that is unforgettable.

Author Friedly has had a long career as a technical writer during his tenure as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist at UC Irvine Healthcare.  This is his first novel.

Books will be available for sale and signing following Mr. Friedly’s presentation, and the author will donate a portion of the proceeds from each sale to the library.

Tweens and teens in 6th -12th grades can Make Waves @ the library on Thursdays 1:30 – 3 PM, starting June 17 through July 22. Each week there will be fun events, including a Sidewalk Chalk Art Splash, Fun in the Sun Crafts, Storyteller/Naturalist Doc Wild, Life’s a Beach Party, an L-Town Treasure Hunt, and Summer 2010 Water Olympiad Finale! Additionally, the Teen Beach Bum Book Club will meet Friday afternoons on June 25, July 9, July 16, and July 23. Discussion titles are Found by Margaret Haddix Peterson, Keeper by Kathi Appelt, The Red Kayak by Priscilla Cummings, and They Came From Below by Blake Nelson.
